Israeli born Dr. Sharon Gershoni is a neuroscientist, photographer, artist, and lesbian. She pursued her doctoral studies in Japan while still learning Japanese.

In this interview she discusses her doctoral work, her art, teaching, calligraphy study and coming out. 

Sharon was the first foreigner and first woman to receive first prize in the most prestigious photograph competition in Japan. She considers the work that won her the prize to be one of her rejects!
